Lost Colors
About the Project
Lost Colors is a first-person puzzle game in which the player needs to escape from a B/W world with the help of their Color Brush and a perspective way of thinking.
The Artist's Block plagues your work and, in your desperation, you decide to summon a mysterious entity, who grants you renewed inspiration... at a terrible price. Trapped within your own paintings, and armed with the Color Brush, the entity challenges you to overcome the struggle by restoring the lost colors and finding your way out. To escape each level, the player must frame the scene elements from a different perspective to form an object, then color it as instructed, in order to unlock the exit.
The Development
The game has been developed using Unreal Engine 5. It was an academic project for the course of Game Programming at the Digital Bros Game Academy (aka DBGA) in Milan, Italy. We had 3 months to develop the game, from scratch, under the supervision of teachers and industry experts. The team was composed of 9 people: 4 Programmers and 5 Game Designers.
My Contribution
I was one of the 4 programmers in the team. My main contributions were the implementation of the shooting mechanic,
the perspective-based components, the color management system, the saving and loading system and the exits
conditions. I've also worked on the game settings like the audio and the brightness selectors backend.
Furthermore, I've had the opportunity to design robust solutions for the project and helping the team on debugging other programmers' code,
providing insights and suggestions to improve the overall game quality.
My experience as a Senior Software Engineer helped me to bring a robust and
maintainable codebase, with a strong focus on code readability and
code quality.
